The suspect then ran towards a crowded pub. Taser officers PC Khan and PC Batty arrived at that moment, and PC Khan deployed his Taser just as the man reached the doorway, allowing officers to safely arrest him. While in custody, the suspect disclosed he had killed someone. Officers later found a deceased woman, confirming he had committed murder before the confrontation.


WILTSHIRE PCs Leonardo Koca (right), Elliot Alvis (far right) and Julia Hassall saved a woman who set herself alight at Asda Orbital in Swindon on 9 January 2026. PCs Koca, Alvis and


Hassall were responding to reports of a woman on the roof of the car park and immediately recognised her as a high-risk missing person. As they approached, she poured nail polish remover over herself and ignited it. PC Koca tackled her to the ground and used his bare hands


to smother the flames, suffering burns in the process. PC Alvis helped extinguish the fire spreading across her clothing, while PC Hassall retrieved a fire extinguisher and put out the remaining flames.


The officers then provided urgent first aid for the woman’s severe burns until she was taken to hospital for treatment. Police say their rapid, selfless actions prevented fatal


injuries and stopped the fire from spreading further. All three knowingly placed themselves in danger to save a life, demonstrating outstanding courage and professionalism.
