ring, entered the water and began swimming out to her, assisted by a member of the public. He reached the woman, secured her onto the life ring and kept
her airway clear while fighting the current during the swim back to shore. Colleagues used a throw line to pull both to safety.
METROPOLITAN 1 PC Yasmin Mechem-Whitfield, PC Cameron King (right) and Inspector Moloy Campbell (below) confronted a man armed with a katana sword during a deadly rampage in Hainault in April 2024, during which a schoolboy was killed,
and several members of the public were attacked. PC Mechem-Whitfield and PC King were among the first officers to respond to the rapidly unfolding incident. PC Mechem-Whitfield pursued the suspect through alleyways armed only with a Taser
and PAVA spray. During the confrontation she was violently attacked, sustaining lifechanging injuries including a fractured skull and severe nerve damage. PC King reacted instantly, placing himself between his injured colleague and the armed suspect. His intervention, later described by the judge as lifesaving, prevented further harm. At the same time, Inspector Campbell engaged the suspect directly. Armed only with his baton, he positioned himself between the attacker and other officers. He suffered a deep hand laceration that caused extensive tendon, muscle and nerve damage but continued his efforts to subdue the suspect. The actions of all three officers took place in an extremely
dangerous and unpredictable environment. Their courage and determination disrupted a violent offender, protected the public and safeguarded one another in the face of an immediate threat to life.
PCs Benjamin Gregory (left) and Jake Lodge (below) responded immediately to emergency calls, entering the property despite the active threat. They detained the suspect and provided urgent first aid to their critically injured colleagues. PC Gregory’s
medical training proved
vital as he opened PC A’s airway and stabilised her until paramedics arrived. Their decisive actions prevented further harm and likely saved lives. In the aftermath, PS Karen Cundy (below) provided exceptional leadership and
compassionate support. She prioritised officer welfare, guided colleagues and families through the traumatic aftermath, and dedicated extensive time over many months to ensuring access to specialist care. Her commitment helped the team recover from one of the most serious assaults on police officers seen in recent years.
METROPOLITAN 3
METROPOLITAN 2 A team of officers acted swiftly to confront a violent offender and provide life-saving aid to seriously injured colleagues. A violent domestic incident
on Hatherley Road in June 2025 escalated into a brutal assault on two police officers. After a neighbour helped the
victim leave safely, officers returned with
her to collect belongings. The suspect suddenly reappeared, attacking PCs A and Adrienne Parmenter (left) with extreme violence. Both officers were knocked unconscious and suffered severe head and facial injuries.
A team of officers risked their lives to save a man attempting to take his own life from a multistorey building in April 2025.
