CHARITY
YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE
Support a regional walk, or undertake your own charity event in support of injured veterans and mental health awareness this Christmas
This winter, thousands of people will be taking part in Walking Home for Christmas, a charity event in support of armed forces veterans across the country. The campaign is run by charity Walking With The Wounded and it is their annual, nationwide fundraising challenge to support the work they do around mental health and employment for veterans. This year, it is running from 9-20 December.
ANDREW SCHOFIELD Andrew Schofield, a former military police officer, will be walking 350 kilometres from the Cenotaph in London to the Cenotaph in Manchester. The walk is a physical representation of his own, and others’,

mental health journey. He aims to complete this extraordinary challenge in just five days. After setting off from London, Andrew’s
route will take him through Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Staffordshire and Cheshire. He will arrive at the Cenotaph in Manchester on Friday 9 December. Well-wishers can follow his progress and send him messages of support on social media using the hashtag #WalkWithAndy This year, there are a number of regional
walks taking place in London, Manchester and Newcastle on 9 December. Anyone who takes part can help to raise vital funds at one of these fun, large-scale events. Everyone is welcome. There is also the option to ‘Walk your own way.’ Participants can complete their own fundraising walk - of any distance and at a location of their choosing - between
9-20 December. Some participants opt to walk their children home from school, others walk between offices with colleagues, and there are those who undertake a walk in memory of someone special or between locations that mean something to them. An estimated 5 million veterans live in the UK. While most of the more than 15,000 personnel who leave the forces each year have a successful transition to civilian life, a small but significant minority do not. Walking With The Wounded supports those who served, and their families, to thrive.
