Secretary, Priti Patel, to respect and reward police officers. National Chair Steve Hartshorn took to the stage and asked the Home Secretary: “Why are my colleagues one of the only groups of frontline public sector workers being penalised?” The Home Secretary said she was relaxing all five conditions, stipulated under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, necessary for carrying out Stop and Search. She said: “I listened carefully, and you were very clear: stop and search is a vital tool in getting knives off our streets and saving lives.”


Another amendment she announced


was the increase in the maximum penalty for assaults on police officers and other emergency workers: “It will now be increased from 12 months to two years in prison for common assault or battery in such cases.”

AUGUST West Midlands undertook the biggest operation in the history of the force as the Commonwealth Games took place in Birmingham. Officers were responsible for


security throughout the games and PFEW played a major role protecting the welfare of its members during the operation, with Fed reps on hand 24/7.
