ANNUAL CONFERENCE AWARDS

NATIONAL DETECTIVES AWARDS

Met and Greater Manchester Police Detectives recognised for outstanding investigative work and exception victim care

While collective achievements often dominate headlines, detective work is also defined by the quiet resilience of individuals who carry complex cases and safeguard vulnerable victims. At the 2025 Police Federation Annual Conference, the National Detectives Awards, sponsored by Quick Mortgages, recognised two such officers: Detective Constable Jayne Jones of the Metropolitan Police Service and a Detective Constable from Greater Manchester Police (GMP). Their stories highlight the human dimension of detective work, where empathy and professionalism combine to deliver justice. DC Jayne Jones has served in the Child Abuse Investigation Team for

five years, building a reputation for meticulous casework and unwavering victim support. Over the past year, she has taken on the responsibilities of Acting Detective Sergeant, supervising investigations involving some of the most serious child abuse offences. Her leadership contributed to a recent conviction in which a defendant pleaded guilty to multiple child rapes, ensuring justice for vulnerable victims and safeguarding others from harm. She has also completed a Level 5 Coaching Apprenticeship, enabling her to mentor colleagues at the early stages of their detective careers. Her nomination came from Detective Chief Inspector Paul

Ridley, who praised her exceptional contributions and long-term impact. He noted that many of her enquiries have resulted in dangerous offenders being imprisoned, while vulnerable victims were protected and supported throughout the judicial process. He described her as an exemplary detective whose resilience, compassion and commitment make London a safer place, and as a dedicated ambassador for public protection and for the Met’s wider efforts to address violence against women and girls. The GMP Detective Constable honoured this year worked on a historic child abuse case spanning multiple jurisdictions. The investigation began during the COVID-19
