PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

the success of our higher education programmes and for our research and innovation. Our two institutions are very much aligned in our ambitions to improve policing and utilise this to the benefit of our respective communities. “We are excited by the potential we

have as partners, and it is the beginning of what we hope to be a long and fruitful collaboration that will shape the next generation of police officers and police staff. It will also provide a mutual exchange of resources to deliver applied research and innovation. This new partnership is the next evolution in police degree offerings from

the University of Portsmouth, following the National Police Curriculum as set out by the College of Policing.”

The BSc (Hons) Professional

Policing Degree prepares students for the emotional, physical, and mental demands of a rewarding career in policing and related fields. Students will use simulated facilities that replicate real-world situations, gain insights from teaching staff with law enforcement experience, and gain experience with local police forces. New recruits will develop legislative, policy, and procedural knowledge while honing critical thinking,

communication, decision-making, and conflict management skills essential for a policing career.

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Portsmouth, founded in 1992, is internationally recognised for its study of crime, its causes, and its societal and personal impacts. It is the largest criminology department in the UK, with interdisciplinary expertise in criminological analysis, applied psychology, policing, community justice, penology, risk, security, and international and comparative criminal justice.
