The University of Portsmouth and Thames Valley Police (TVP) have formed a new partnership aimed directly at students pursuing a Professional Policing Degree (PPD).
The university joins 48 other English and
Welsh universities that also offer a PPD. The new initiative at Portsmouth goes beyond traditional classroom learning. Students will be immersed in the world of policing through talks, visits, and hands- on experiences with TVP. Foundation trainers from TVP will work closely with university staff to ensure students receive the most current and relevant knowledge. This practical approach is designed to shape well-prepared candidates ready to join the police force. Thames Valley Police Chief Constable Jason Hogg said: “We are building relationships with partners like the University of Portsmouth to attract the

Thames Valley Police is here to support them every step of the way and we hope to make TVP the force of choice for those students who want to pursue a career in policing by more actively supporting their policing degree programme.” Over the past six months, Thames
Valley Police and the University of Portsmouth have formalised their partnership and are now set to work together.
Professor Paul Smith, head of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of Portsmouth, highlighted the importance of the collaboration. He said: “For the university, partnership with one of our most important employers is vital to
