Rachel Parson MA ’17, a graduate of the Knight School of Communication, is hitting another milestone in her 14- year teaching career, earning faculty member of the month for fall 2020 and fall 2021 at the University of Arkansas Hope Texarkana located in the cities of both Hope, Arkansas and Texarkana, Arkansas. Being a community college professor is her passion and teaching her students the fine art of public speaking and communication is her mission!


Melodie J. Rodgers MFA ’17 has published creative works with Eckleburg Review, G.R.I.T.S. - Girls Raised In the South: An Anthology of Southern Queer Womyns’ Voices and Their Allies, Embark Literary Journal and many others. In March 2021, Melodie became the producer and founding editor of SOREN LIT. SOREN LIT is a Southern Renaissance literary journal and podcast showcasing writers who are women, femme- identifying, and/or non-binary creatives with connections to the South: www.sorenlit.com.


The class expresses sympathy to Robin Fetherston MFA ’19 on the deaths of her father-in-law, Robert E. Fetherston, on June


12, 2021, and her mother-in- law, Suzanne Marie Whitford Fetherston, on September 27.


Since graduating, Travis Barnes MA ’20 has started his second business, The Mimosa Way LLC. The Mimosa Way LLC provides events emphasizing philanthropy, innovation and community activism. Travis is committed to adding to his freelance portfolio with business number one, 3.2.96 Communications, and business number two, The Mimosa Way LLC. Travis’s singular goal is to center communication and acceptance in all he does. He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at Liberty University.


During graduate school, Jason McLawhorn MSN ’20 and his husband Larry, started McLawland Farms, a boutique, “you pick” experience farm, in the northeast corner of Charlotte. As a nurse educator, Jason has been able to take his skills to the farm by educating the public on naturally grown products and flowers. In addition to “you pick” blackberries and flowers, the farm offers educational farm tours and events.

Tammy Gordon MHA ’21 enjoyed an exciting 2021, including the honor of turning 50 years old, completing her MHA


degree, and celebrating her first anniversary with her love, Louis. Tammy enjoyed several adventures including trips to exciting New York City and beautiful Colorado Springs. Tammy was promoted to clinical supervisor at Amedisys Home Health and looks forward to continuing her professional growth and is exploring options for her doctoral degree in public health.
