LEGACY GIFTS. SUSTAINABLE SUPPORT.

Planned giving provides long-lasting funding for areas where Queens needs it most. Two women with long histories of supporting Queens during their lifetimes continue their legacies through scholarships to support students.

Virginia Martin, PhD (below), Queens professor emerita, bequeathed more than $400,000 to support science scholarships for future students. Dr. Martin taught biology from 1966- 2005 and served in many leadership roles including chair of the biology department during her tenure at the university.

“Since its inception, the Dr. Virginia L. Martin Science Scholarship has supported the undergraduate education of multiple science majors at Queens. The STEM departments at Queens are most appreciative of this special scholarship as our students participate in research and internship opportunities that advance their scientific understanding.”

ROSE MARCH DANIEL

Rose March Daniel ’79 (above) bestowed more than $100,000 for future scholarships. Daniel graduated summa cum laude from Queens, worked at the university, served as president of the Queens Alumni Association, president of the Friends of the Library, was a member of the board of trustees and in 1994 was given the Alumni Service Award.

“Queens had taught me the importance of networking and promoting collaborative efforts in order to foster professional relationships. Queens had also taught me how to find my voice as a scientist. During my time as a student, I had developed the confidence necessary to speak publicly; not only towards my fellow classmates but for interviewing for a position in graduate school and research conferences.“
