DIVERSE OPPORTUNITIES. INCLUSIVE SPACE.

Te Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for the Arts and Civic Engagement pulled out the welcome mat as the new home for the Arts at Queens. With all seven arts disciplines now housed in one location, the creative possibilities are endless.

On February 20, 2020, the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center opened with a celebration and dedication event concluding with a performance by Tony Award-winning Broadway and television star Sutton Foster (pictured bottom right) in the Center’s new 1,000-seat Sandra Levine Theatre. At the building’s dedication, Queens President Dan Lugo expressed appreciation for the 34 donors who supported the project, many of whom named spaces in the beautiful new facility. With the vision and commitment of these supporters, the Center is now a cultural beacon for the arts not only on campus, but also in the Charlotte area.

“As a student, I loved walking to the art department in Carol Hall, which was then across Selwyn Avenue from the main campus. There I was always encouraged by my professors George Shealy and Phillip Moose. Thanks to them, I have had a career in art, and I am so glad that my husband Tom and I could help make the new Gambrell Center a reality for the students and faculty of today and the future.”

Queens offers special thanks to donors for their generosity in making the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center possible.

“I honestly love Gambrell Center! It’s very spacious and there’s plenty of room for us students to have study- time. My favorite area is downstairs in the private practice rooms; there’s always a room available.”

– C.C. Cooper ’21, Music Therapy Major
