BRIGHT FUTURES. ENDLESS POSSIBILITY.
The Sarah Belk Gambrell Center is a place where students, faculty, staff and the community can connect, collaborate and create. Among the many options inside are a photography darkroom, rehearsal rooms, innovative classrooms and a music therapy clinic. Not only does the new center encourage partnerships between disciplines, it also offers theatre and gallery space to host nationally-recognized performers and artists, and students honing their craft.
In January 2020, Charlotte Concerts announced an endowment for the Charlotte Concerts Legacy Fund at Queens. The fund sponsors student scholarships and a concert each year bringing classical performers to the Gambrell Center as part of the Arts at Queens Spotlight Series.
“Partnering with Queens to extend the 90-year legacy of Charlotte Concerts by bringing world-class performers to Charlotte and educating students with a passion for music was a great decision. By transferring our endowment to Queens, we feel confident that the core mission of Charlotte Concerts will thrive for both students and the community at large for years to come.”
– Leslie Kaplan Schlernitzauer, Former Executive Director, Charlotte Concerts
“Everything in the building speaks to what we are doing and want to do: interdisciplinary work, future classes, civic engagement. Everything is new and that brings the possibility of new levels of partnership.”
– Dr. Siu Challons-Lipton, Executive Director, Department of Art, Music and Design
