A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
To the Queens Community: Looking back on the 2019-2020 Fiscal/Academic Year —my first as President—it is clear that no one could have predicted what the second half would hold. Soon after we launched into 2020 with bright promise, the pandemic upturned most of our plans and forced us to navigate just about everything virtually. The closing of campus meant that students, faculty and staff—the lifeblood of Queens University— were able to connect only through our devices. When travel was halted, I missed being able to meet with friends of Queens from near and far in person, yet I’m so pleased we discovered alternative ways to connect with our community.
These are extraordinary times, indeed. Yet, the Queens mission, vision, values and commitment are unwavering. We are here to educate students with a strong, quintessentially American, yet globally-minded liberal arts foundation while equipping them with skills that employers and careers demand. While we hold true to our core beliefs now more than ever, we have also proven to be nimble and adaptive to challenges in the world as well as the ever-changing landscape of higher education.
With your steadfast loyalty and financial support, Queens is able to make a positive difference not only for our students, but also for the greater good. In this 2019-2020 Impact Report, I hope you enjoy exploring how your generosity has reached across our campus, through the Charlotte community and out into the world.
We look forward to the days when we may come together again: in our classrooms, event spaces, lecture halls, and in fellowship over our shared love of Queens. Thank you for your continued support during this and every year.
Warm regards, Daniel G. Lugo President
