THINK PINK CAMPAIGN

Blueline, a family-run business with deep roots in the North East, was founded by Colin and Audrey Shanks. Audrey was the first female taxi driver in the region, a legacy that Blueline is proud to continue by supporting more women drivers.

Wellman Cars, our latest fleet partner, is also a family-owned and run business operating for over 35 years in Hamilton, Scotland.

BUILDING A COMMUNITY OF EMPOWERED WOMEN DRIVERS

Think Pink addresses the gender imbalance in the UK’s private hire industry, where less than three per cent of drivers are women. Mary Storrie explains: “Our partners share our ethos of providing women with opportunities and understand the value for not only the women drivers, but also for their fleet.

“Our findings show that women’s lives are transformed both on a financial and personal level through taxi driving, whilst the concept of women driving for other women offers a new market for fleets, with the potential of a huge demand.

“Women drivers are recruited specifically for fleet partners, supported by Think Pink to attain their private hire licence. Think Pink continues to mentor and support women once on the road through the Think Pink Alliance which creates a self-supportive community of women drivers and has proven to be key in a high level of retain- ment for fleets”.

PHTM SEPTEMBER 2024 A GLOBAL VISION WITH LOCAL IMPACT

Think Pink is supported by the Rosie May Foundation, a UK registered charity, and began its women in transportation initiatives internationally. The Foundation has economically empowered women since 2016 through Think Pink Tuk-Tuks in South Asia, transforming lives by lifting women out of poverty by earning a robust income as taxi drivers, while ensuring safer public transport options for other women and girls.

The Rosie May Foundation was established in 2004 by Mary and Graham Storrie following the murder of their only daughter, Rosie May. Their commitment to turn tragedy into hope by creating positive futures has empowered thousands of girls and women across the world.

GROWING SUPPORT & FUTURE PARTNERSHIPS

Think Pink is thrilled to be iCabbi’s ‘Charity of the Year,’ raising funds through a range of industry events, alongside a new partnership with Cab9, who will sponsor 9 female drivers over the next 9 months to get on the road. These collaborations and support from founding sponsors and industry champions, are crucial to driving lasting change and we would like to express our sincere thanks.

Interested drivers, fleets, or sponsors can learn more about the initiative by contacting Think Pink at www.thinkpinkdrivers.uk our social media channels or nicola@rosiemay.com or by calling 07470 512589.
