BIRMINGHAM GETS THE ‘ROYAL’TREA

Private hire firms may come and go, but one particular firm has endured the test of time, and is thriving in the Birmingham and Solihull area: Royal Cars.

Established over 30 years ago with a fleet of around 15 cars, today’s fleet compris- es 340 private hire vehicles of all shapes and sizes: saloon, estate, five to eight seater MPV,

execu-

tive, and all of an exceedingly high standard. Royal Cars prides itself in offering a truly versatile serv- ice including account work, a courier serv- ice, airport and hotel transfers, and exclu- sive tours.

So how does a firm this size cope with their sizeable work volume? For over six years Royal Cars operated more than satisfactorily with GPC’s Autocab com- puterised booking and dispatch system. During that time Royal expanded to become one of the biggest and most respected transport firms in Birmingham.

One of the reasons for their success, apart from their hard work and dedication, is their ambition to stay at the forefront of technology and

there is no need to spoil the look of our vehicles.

“The drivers benefit greatly from the Minos: they have commented on the excellent signal strength and the voice communication feature - which is especially useful as the driver can use the terminal just like a ‘hands-free’ mobile phone to communi- cate with the base. “We are a leading company in Birming- ham and we want to keep it that way. We

ahead of their com- petitors. This is why Royal Cars have now upgraded to the Minos, the world’s lat- est data terminal.

DUAL SIM

The firm’s owner, Ashiq Ali, was operat- ing his Autocab system on the PDA but decided he need- ed to inject some new life into his business with the Minos data terminal. He des- cribed his upgrade as “the way forward into the modern world”. After going live with the Minos only a few months ago Ashiq is delighted with the new data terminal and the advantages it has

brought to his busi- ness.

This is quite an impressive addition to the Autocab suite of products! Outstand- ing voice navigation, on-board multi-level map, 4.3" colour touch screen, univer- sal connectivity, easy upgrade facility, swipe card reader... its attrib- utes are many.

Some of the features Ashiq is most impressed with are the dual Sim card facility and the mount- ing bracket. The dual Sim enables the Minos to operate on two GRPS networks at the same time - one on each Sim - so you could operate half your fleet on ‘network

1' and the other half on ‘network 2', which would suit taxi com- panies with very large fleets. Alternatively, one Sim can be used as a back-up.

With the advanced yet simple mounting bracket the Minos is easily detachable and repositionable; as it simply clips in and out of the cradle it can be repositioned anywhere on the windscreen or dash to suit the driver’s preference.

Ashiq commented on the advantages of the Minos and why he chose to upgrade from the PDA. He said: “The Minos is purpose built for the taxi industry, is strong and durable, and has everything the driver needs so it is an all- round better data terminal. There are no aerials with the Minos, which is a big plus for us because
