TAXI CLUES SOUGHT OVER SEX ATTACK IN BERKSHIRE
A cabbie may hold clues about a female passenger who was sexually assaulted. The driver picked up the 23-year-old wo- man at about 4am on Monday 6 September from Newbury town centre.
During her journey to an address in Thatch-
am, the woman used the taxi driver’s mobile phone to make a call. The woman was later involved in a serious “domestic-related” sexual assault, police said.

AFTER BRIDGEND DEATH
A 39-year-old man died after a taxi driver intervened in an argu- ment he was having with his girlfriend. Police said the man sustained a serious head injury in the inci- dent on Saturday 21 August in Bridgend. He was taken to hospi- tal but has since died. According to BBC News, a 21-year-old
male taxi driver has been arrested and bailed. Police said when the taxi driver arrived to pick up the couple, they were “involved in an altercation”. Offi- cers believe he then attempted to “placate the situation”.
“The incident has then developed, whereby the 39-year-old male
partner has fallen to the floor and sus- tained a serious head injury,” police said in a statement.
Chief Insp Stephen Jones said: “There are also rumours around that have not been sub- stantiated such as a weapon being used. We can reassure the local community that this is not the case.”
WEST LONDON MUGGERS CAUGHT AFTER NICKING TRACKER
A pair of dozy mug- gers were caught after taking a cabbie’s tracking device. The robbers ambush- ed Osami Alardi, 30, after they booked his taxi. One held a huge knife to his throat while the other snatched £17. They also took his mobile phone.
But they didn’t know it contained tracking
software fitted by the private hire firm. Osami contacted his controllers, who plotted the thieves’ every move. They called police, who arrested one rob- ber hiding 400 yards away. He asked offi- cers: “How did you find me?” His accom- plice was arrested the next day. Osami said: “When he snatched
my phone thinking it was just a mobile I knew he wouldn’t get away - as long as he didn’t turn it off.” Ibrhe Ali, who owns the cab firm in Hanwell, West London, told the Sun newspaper: “The satellite tracking sys- tem was expensive but it’s already paid for itself by helping catch these thugs.”

Police are hunting a taxi driver who smashed his cab through the front doors of a council HQ in a late-night ram raid. The shock attack came days after a taxi firm met local authority bosses in Glasgow in a bid to get more pri- vate hire licences. A council insider said it was lucky no one was killed in the inci- dent at the City Chambers.
The source told the
Scottish Sun: “The front door was completely smashed in. It was lucky it was late at night and there were few peo- ple about - it could’ve been carnage.” Police raced to the scene but the irate cabbie had already fled in his motor. The insider added: “No one seems to know why this guy targeted the Chambers.” Last month a controver- sial cab firm met council chiefs to ask for
44 private hire licences. Police want dozens of cabs run by the compa- ny taken off the roads. The taxi bosses’ lawyers asked for talks to be adjourned to investigate several mat- ters that arose.
The firm, who claim they’re being vic- timised by police, are also appealing a coun- cil decision to strip them of their opera- tor’s licence. Police said: “Inquiries are ongoing.”
