PONTEFRACT CABBIE IS £1,000 RICHER THANKS TO THE MYSTERY TIPPER
It was a cold, damp October morning and I was in ruins, quite lit- erally. Standing on what remains of Pon- tefract Castle, I pondered the great battles that had taken place there.
But I was not in this part of Yorkshire for a history lesson. I’d made the trip to Ponte- fract to hand out yet another £1000 tip to one lucky cabbie. Turning away from the castle ruins, I made my way towards the market, wondering where I should start my search.
Experience told me to
head for the train sta- tion, but which one? Baghill seemed the closest so I made the short walk there. Not spotting my sticker I walked on, this time heading for Tanshelf. But again I had no joy. Deciding to take a dif- ferent tack, I made my way to the Race- course, stopping briefly to buy a bag of Pontefract Cakes. Around the paddock I found plenty of hors- es, but not a cabbie in sight.
Changing direction once more, I headed back across town towards Monkhill Sta-
tion. Surely I’d find my cabbie there. As I reached the entrance I caught a glimpse of something. Long blonde hair, trilby,
orange fistful of
cash…at last, my sticker!
The owner was Susan Hepworth and she was absolutely made up. “I can’t believe I’ve won, I’m speechless. I can’t wait to buy new carpets for my house and treat myself.” So yet again, I’ve made another cabbie £1,000 richer. Check out the photos from the day on Facebook- simply search for my
