HELP FIND THE CABBIE WHO HURT SOUTHEND BOY IN THE STREET
A mum is appealing for witnesses after her eight-year-old son was attacked by a taxi driv- er while walking to school with his brother. Bradley Hawes was walking to Hamstel Junior School, in Southend, with his older brother Jordan, nine, and friends when he was grabbed around the throat by the taxi driver.
The group was walk- ing in Poynings Avenue at about 8.30am on Monday 27 September when the driver stopped, got out of his car and grabbed Bradley. He pinned him against a wall and shouted and swore at him.
Another group of chil- dren were throwing
stones and it is thought it may have been a case of mistak- en identity.
The children went straight to school and reported the incident to teachers, who called the police. His mum, Charlene Hawes, 27, said Bradley has been quiet since the incident and she is worried about letting him walk to school. She told the Echo: “He was getting to the age where he said ‘let me go to school with my friends’ so we thought we would give them that little bit of leeway. Then all of a sudden I get a call saying my son had been attacked by a taxi driver. “We normally get taxis, but he doesn’t want to

The taxi was white with red writing on it. “We would appeal for anyone who was doing the school run around that time, and maybe saw the assault or recognises the descrip- tion of the taxi driver, to come forward.”

APPEAL FOR WEST BYFLEET TAXI CLIENT TO CALL POLICE
Police investigating an allegation of rape in West Byfleet are appealing for a taxi passenger who may have vital information to come forward. Officers were called to Parvis Road in the early hours of Friday 13 August, following reports an 18-year-old woman was raped. The teenager was walk- ing along the road towards the M25 when
he forced her into woodland at the side of the road and sexually assaulted her, she says. She called police and a man was arrested and charged the fol- lowing day.
Shortly before the alleged rape, a taxi passed the teenager as it headed towards West Byfleet along Parvis Road. The pas- senger is believed to be a black man, possi-
bly called Michael, and he was dropped off in Camphill Road, West Byfleet after a night out in Wandsworth.
DCI Steve Hayes told the Surrey Herald: “This man is not in any trouble, but we need to speak with him as he may have informa- tion that could help us in this case.”
Anyone with informa- tion can call 0845 1252222.
APPEAL FOR SOUTH WALES CABBIE KIDNAPPER
A woman taxi passen- ger was left terrified when a driver drove off with her in his car, as her partner nipped out to a cashpoint.
The woman had been waiting in the back of the black Fiat Doblo cab outside Tesco in Pontyclun while her partner got some money to pay the fare. The driver then drove off before stopping about half a mile away in Heol Miskin, Ponty- clun, where the woman managed to
get out and flagged down a police car. She was then reunited with her partner, who had already called police.
According to Wales Online, officers are investigating the inci- dent, which took place on Thursday 30 Sep- tember at about 11.30pm. Detective Inspector Lee Porter, of South Wales Police, said: “There could be an innocent explana- tion for the taxi driver’s action and I would ask
him to contact us so we can establish his version of events. “We have been speak- ing to taxi companies but as yet we have been unable to trace him.” The driver is des- cribed as being of Asian appearance, with a black beard and scruffy black hair. Police have urged anyone with informa- tion to contact Taff CID on 01443 743642 or Crimestoppers anony- mously on 0800 555111.
FRESH APPEAL FOR INFO TO FIND DERBY DRIVER’S ATTACKER
Detectives have made a fresh appeal for information about an incident in which a taxi driver was reportedly mowed down by a car and stabbed in the street outside his home.
Officers from Stafford- shire Police’s major investigation depart- ment renewed their call almost three months after Usman Ali was attacked in broad day- light in Blackpool Street, Burton. The 22-year-old was stretchered by para- medics to the Midlands Air Ambu- lance after being
attacked at 3.15pm on Wednesday, June 30. Mr Ali was flown to hospital, where he was treated for fractures and cuts to his arms and legs.
The offenders, who during the attack dam- aged a blue Vauxhall Astra taxi owned by Mr Ali’s employer, fled the wrong way down the one-way Leicester Street before aban- doning their getaway vehicle, a blue Toyota Avensis, in St Matthew’s Street. According to the Burton Mail, police sealed off the road and conducted a forensic examination
of the scene, but the Mail understands that although they suspect who carried out the attack, they have yet to gather the evidence needed to prosecute them.
As a result they have issued a fresh appeal for information.
The attack left Mr Ali’s colleagues and neigh- bours shocked and stunned.
Anyone who can pro- vide any details is urged to telephone Staffordshire Police’s major investigation department on 01785 233601 or Crimestop- pers, on 0800 555 111.
