An ‘absolute legend’ taxi driver saved an 82-year-old’s
life
when she suffered a bad fall just after getting out of his car. Eileen O’Brien, 82, had been enjoying a night at her local British Legion on Easter Sunday and booked a private hire vehicle to drop her off at home in Garston. The great-grand- mother got out of the car just after midnight - but the driver waited to make sure she got into her house safely. When he didn’t see a light go on inside her house after a
few minutes, he got out to check every- thing was okay. He found mum-of- four Eileen lying near her garden gate, crying out in pain after having a bad fall. If it wasn’t for the considerate and car- ing actions of the driver, Eileen’s fami- ly fear she may have been left in pain all night. Speaking to the Liv- erpool Echo, Eileen’s son John O’Brien said: “She usually goes out with me and my auntie Pat to the local British Legion to get out of the house. “We always use Vil-

make sure she got in the house safely. “My mum lives in a cul-de-sac and it’s quite dark with a
four-foot fence in the front garden. When he hadn’t seen the lights go on he found her fall- en over and col- lapsed in absolute agony by the gar- den gate. “She was crying out for help to try and get the attention of my auntie Pat but because they were sat in the car they couldn’t hear her.” Eileen, who has six grandchildren and still volunteers at her

charity shop in Garston village, suf- fered a broken hip in the fall and was taken to hospital. Overwhelmed by

the driver’s kind gesture, John got in touch with Village Taxis to find the man who helped his mother. An operator for the family-run private hire firm, which has been trading for 49 years, informed him that the driver in question was called Robbie Wilson - and John said he plans to drop a card and ‘a bottle of something nice’ off as a thank- you. He said: “We are so appreciative as a family. He’s an absolute legend as far as we are con- cerned. He saved my mum.”
