HEREFORD FAMILY ARE DOUBLE HEROES
A Hereford taxi driver has followed in the footsteps of his nephew by saving someone’s life.
Mick Lloyd stopped a man jumping off Greyfriars Bridge – just weeks after his nephew Jason Pardoe pulled a 20-year-old woman from freezing water near the Victoria Bridge.
Mr Lloyd, from Newton Farm, was driving when he saw someone climb- ing over the railings. “I thought I noticed something strange but wasn’t sure what it was,” the Blue Line driver told the Hereford Times.
“But when I drove right by him, I saw that he was climbing over the rails and was over the edge. I immediately called the police, who told me to keep my phone on so they could hear what was going on. “I kept telling the man
that it was not worth it and that the river was cold.”
Mr Lloyd managed to pull the man over the railings with one hand, as his other hand was still holding his mobile phone.
His heroics came just weeks after his nephew also saved someone’s life. Jason Pardoe, received a commemo- rative plaque from the mayor of Hereford for his own rescue effort. Mr Pardoe jumped into the River Wye and stopped a woman being swept down-river. Mr Lloyd said it was amazing that two mem- bers of the same family had saved people in such a short space of time. “As a taxi driver you see a lot of things and your job is to help people,” Mick said.
“But for this to happen to my family again seems quite ironic.”
BRAVE BATH TAXI DRIVER GIVEN AWARD
A level-headed taxi driver who picked up a mugger after seeing him knocking an elder- ly woman to the ground in Bath has received a police award. Quick-thinking Fehmi Bodur, 44, a taxi driver for 12 years, has been honoured for his involvement in catching the robber who stole a handbag from an elderly woman that contained her life savings. Mr Bodur, witnessed the incident and fol- lowed the offender in his taxi, which the man eventually hailed. The mugger asked to be taken to Chippen- ham and, once in the car, began to count a large bundle of money. Police say Mr Bodur remained calm through- out the journey and immediately alerted them once he had dropped the mugger off at a supermarket. The offender was arrest-

ed and brought to justice as a result of what police call Mr Bodur’s “quick thinking and coura- geous actions”.
Mr Bodur told the Bath Chronicle: “I realised after the incident that it was a big risk because the man could’ve had a weapon, but at the time I didn’t think about it.
An heroic taxi driver saved an 88-year-old woman’s life after she suffered a suspected heart attack on Weston- Super-Mare High Street. The quick thinking Woodspring Taxis employee was startled when he heard a loud thud at the pedestrian crossing by Argos. Andy Gardener put his first aid experience to practice for the first time by beginning to resuscitate the elderly grandmother of 12. Andy, aged 42, said: “I turned around to see what the noise was and saw an old lady lying on the pavement. “At first I thought she had passed out but when her lips went blue I realised it was more serious.”
Andy said that as soon as he realised there was no pulse he immediately began the resuscitation process. He told the Weston and

Somerset Mercury: “I had only done it once before on a dummy, but I did not have time to panic. I just did what I had to.
“I was completely oblivi- ous to the air ambulance helicopter flying above as I was so focused on what I was doing.” The ambulance arrived ten minutes later but the paramedic told him to carry on as he was doing such a good job. Once Andy got her breathing the para- medics took over. Andy said the paramedic took him to one side and said that his quick actions had saved the woman’s life.
Andy said: “I was very shaken up afterwards. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.”
Her daughter said she cannot thank Andy enough for his actions and hopes to meet him soon to thank him in person.
