CHESHIRE WEST AND CHESTER COUNCIL LICENSES FIRST ELECTRIC MG5

Steve Williams works for Frodsham firm, Ian’s Taxis. He has always loved big derv cars such as the top of the range Skoda Superb auto and was initially very sceptical about EVs. However, when he took up Car ‘n’ Cab Care’s offer to take the MG5 for a one-day test drive he was very impressed; not only by the keen price and top spec of the exclusive model with full leather seats, but by its speed, roomy interior and most of all by the massive fuel savings. Steve said: “Car ‘n’ Cab made the purchase so easy. They gave me a great deal with good discount and even fitted a meter. “I have also had a 7kW charger installed at my home by Car ‘n’ Cab Care providers Franklin Energy. It’s unbelievable, I only have to charge my MG5 overnight once every two days, at a cost of 5p per kW per hour with Octopus Go electric, equating to £3-£4 for 100% charge giving me 200 miles! “I have a daily school contract and they love how comfortable the MG5 is, and many other passengers have also comple- mented my choice of new vehicle. In fact, my partner is also a taxi driver, currently driving an E Class Mercedes and he is also thinking of buying one. “I advise any owner driver who has a driveway to consider making the change or at least have a test drive and see for yourselves the fantastic savings that can be made - especially as Cheshire West and Chester Council is currently offering a 12-month free vehicle licence for any full electric vehicle registered. “Believe me, it’s the best decision I ever made.”

LIVERPOOL CITY COUNCIL LICENSES FIRST ELECTRIC PRIVATE HIRE MG5

Forward-thinking Uber driver, Brian Cook, is extremely happy with his new vehicle. He said: “I can’t believe what a great deal I got from Car ‘n’ Cab. The MG5 is fantastic value with a great spec, it’s a good size and so cheap to run.” He has not had a 7kW charger fitted at his home as yet, but says he has had no problem charging his vehicle as there are a number of Rapid 50kW charging points in the Liverpool area. These charge the battery from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes at a cost of £8 for 120 miles top-up. However, he won’t need to use rapid chargers once his own 7kW charger is installed at his home, as he will then be able to do a full 200 miles charge overnight for just £3-£4. This will make the regular 200 mile round trip to visit his daughter very economical and if needed he can charge the car at her home using a normal outdoor three pin socket which will top up the battery for 30 miles per hour charged Brian says: “I encourage all drivers, especially those with their own home driveway, to invest in an electric vehicle now in order to take advantage of the free home chargers being offered, as well as the substantial council EV Grants, whilst they are still available.” Yvonne Willcock, Team Leader for Taxis at Liverpool City Council said: “We are delighted to license the first fully electric hackney carriage vehicle, the Nissan Dynamo, and now our first fully electric MG as a PHV and are currently working on ways to assist both the hackney carriage and private hire trade with the transition into licensing electric vehicles.”
