UNSUNG HEROES
LONDON UBER DRIVER HANDS WOMAN HER PHONE EIGHT MONTHS AFTER SHE LEFT IT IN HIS CAB
A woman was stunned when an Uber driver handed over her phone as she climbed into his vehicle - eight months after she left it there. Shay Sade claims her ‘faith in humanity was restored’ by the ‘crazy miracle’ after her incredible chance encounter with the same driver on April 30, who said he’d been hanging on to her phone in case he bumped into her again. WalesOnline reports that the 27-year- old had been making her way home from a night out in London in late August when she lost her iPhone 6. Despite trying to retrace her footsteps in a bid to be reunited with the phone, Shay was gutted to be forced to admit defeat as the device had sentimental photos on it. However, she was left gobsmacked when she clambered into an Uber a
fortnight ago only to be handed her ‘prodigal’ phone. Sharing her incredible story on Twitter, Shay’s tweet racked up more than 15,000 retweets and 200,000 likes - however, it was deemed so uncanny by some that many didn’t believe her and branded Shay a ‘liar’. But she was unfazed and said she is opting to ‘ignore’ those who don’t believe her - hoping her story shows that ‘humans can be good and nice’. Shay said: “It’s restored my faith in humanity. It made me feel that there are nice people out there. I just thought ‘wow, you’re such a nice human being’. “It made my day. I was so shocked and emotional, because there were so many memories on that phone.” On the night Shay lost her phone, she’d hopped in multiple Ubers and had no
idea which one she may have left her phone in. Shay said: “I tried calling the phone I’d lost but it wouldn’t ring. I tried to con- tact Uber, but I couldn’t even remember which Uber I’d been in when I lost it. I went through multiple Ubers that day. So, in the end, I just assumed it was lost and cancelled my contract. “Months passed and I got another Uber. He took a while to set off, and I was confused as he was rummaging in the glove compartment for ages, and then he said: ‘I’ve got something for you... here’s your phone’. “Honest to God I was thinking ‘what the hell?’ Every part of me was like ‘what?’” An Uber spokesperson said: “We’re delighted the passenger’s phone was returned, and that the driver kindly held onto the device until he saw her again.”
LONDON CABBIE URGES OTHERS TO JOIN CAMPAIGN TO HELP TEN-YEAR-OLD CHLOE BEAT CANCER
A kind-hearted taxi driver is urging fel- low cabbies to get on board the campaign to help a ten-year-old cancer patient’s campaign to get potentially life-saving treatment abroad. According to London News, Chloe, from Pimlico, is currently fighting stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma for a third time, but has run out of treatment options in the UK. Dave Raymond knew that he wanted to come on board with the campaign as soon as he heard about it from family members. The 57-year-old cabbie of more than 30 years has written to the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association, asking them to back the campaign, and wants other drivers to help in any way they can. Dave Raymond, 57, said: “I grew up around Pimlico and I’ve got a big family around there still, which is how I heard

about it. “Chloe’s family is from Pimlico too. I’ve picked them up in the cab before and they are such a lovely family and Chloe is so brave I just knew I wanted to help. “I’m delighted to support this great cause by having a campaign sticker on my cab and hope that some of my fel- low drivers will get involved in some way too and help Chloe get the treat-
ment she needs.” Chloe needs £273,000 to get specialist care in Barcelona and then, if that is successful, Stage 2 of her treatment requires a further £127,000 for treat- ment in New York, taking the total needed to £400k. Pimlico Plumbers has pledged to donate £1 from each of the more than 2,000 jobs they complete weekly and have decked out their vans with cam- paign stickers to get people involved. Many other companies are rallying around to help too. UK Billboards has donated £10,000 of free digital adver- tising space and hundreds of people have taken part in fundraising events or simply donated to the fund, driving the current total to almost £220,000.
