TAXI DRIVER’S LICENCE SUSPENDED AFTER BUST-UP WITH FILMMAKER OUTSIDE SALFORD COVID TEST CENTRE

A taxi driver has had his operator licence suspended after a video emerged of a bust-up with a filmmaker outside a coronavirus testing centre. According to the Manchester Evening News, Charlie Veitch, whose YouTube videos are watched by nearly 100,000 subscribers across the world, captured footage of the confrontation at the facility outside Salford Civic Centre on Thursday 19 November. Mr Veitch, 40, said he was using the test centre as a backdrop for a video, in which he was discussing Joe Biden and Donald Trump, when he was confront- ed by the driver. As a taxi leaves the mobile facility, it can be seen being driven towards Mr Veitch. The vehicle then pulls up next to him. Mr Veitch can be heard saying: “Hi, how

can I help you?” The taxi driver asks him whether is filming, before repeat- edly asking him to stop. After a tense exchange, the video shows the driver appear to attempt to hit out at Mr Veitch through his window before, climbing out of the vehicle. The filmmaker appears to concede that

CWMBRAN DRIVER JAILED AFTER HE TURNED TO DRUG DEALING

A taxi driver who turned to dealing cocaine after he lost his cabbie’s licence was found with more than £7,000 in cash when his home was raided. The Free Press reports that Ryan Jones, 36, from Cwmbran, also had 1,700 pre- scription drugs tablets at his address, prosecutor Paul Hewitt said. Gwent Police officers executed a search warrant which also saw them recover 2.59 grams of cocaine and 76.9 grams of cannabis, Cardiff Crown Court was told. Jones pleaded guilty to possession of class A, B and C drugs with intent to supply on October 6. The class C drugs were made up of tramadol, diazepam, pregabalin and alprazolam tablets and had a street value of around £1,000. The court was told that Jones had previous convictions but none for any relevant offences. Sentencing him, Judge Richard Williams told Jones: “You were a street level drug dealer. You were dealing these drugs for profit and you played a significant role.” He jailed the defendant, who appeared in court via video link from Cardiff Prison, for a total of 34 months. Jones is due to face a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing in the new year.

he was compelled to ‘slap’ the driver’. Staff at the test centre dialled 999, Mr Veitch said. Police officers arrived with- in minutes, he added. He also reported the incident to the council. Mr Veitch insists he was not trying to film anyone at the test centre. He was unhurt. A spokesperson for Salford council said: “The incident was also captured by our CCTV cameras and footage has been passed to the police for review. “We have suspended the drivers’ taxi licence with immediate effect until a full report can be put before the licens- ing panel.” A spokesperson for Greater Manch- ester Police said officers were aware of ‘a video purporting to show a con- frontation’ and are investigating.

RYDE CABBIE CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORN VIDEOS AVOIDS JAIL

A taxi driver who had more than 1,000 videos of the most “colossal, life-destroying” child pornography has been spared jail. Lee Whiteland, 53, from Ryde, appeared before the Newport Crown Court, Isle of Wight on 30 October. According to the Isle of Wight County Press, he admitted six counts of making indecent images of a child between June 2018, and May 2019. The court heard that police had con- ducted a search of Whiteland's address, seizing two laptops, a mobile phone, a tablet and a separate hard drive. Whiteland had a collection of more than 3,000 items, of which 1,700 were Category A - the worst kind. Simon Moger, defending, said Whiteland was a man of no previous convictions, who had made frank admissions and had been candid about his behaviour. He said it had been a combination of boredom, isolation and his having no sexual relationship that had led him down such a path. Mr Moger said Whiteland had made attempts to end his own life, and didn't want to find himself in such a position ever again. Whiteland was jailed for 12 months, suspended for two years, and was given a two-year community order to include 35 rehabilitation days. He was given a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to pay costs of £425.
