In a year when the entire world has been turned upside- down by Covid-19 with a resultant economic downturn due to the rampant spread of the fear factor throughout all forms of media, we at PHTM wish to extend to all our readers the hope that you have some sort of enjoyable break this festive season.

Yes, it’s going to be difficult – what with the state of everyone’s finances, coupled with the ‘bubble’ restrictions governing households getting together – but at least we can say one thing with some degree of certainty: next year is going to be better!

With that thought in mind, we’ll indulge in some positivity within this edition. Have a read about all the myriad of activities the NPHTA has been involved with these past few weeks; we do believe we’re turning a corner with the Department for Transport, and that some progress is being made towards getting recognition and guidance for #theforgottenindustry.

Check out the article by Mark Jennings from Southend, and the way their local taxi co-operative is coping with Covid. It’s great to have a feel-good story, especially at this time of year. Also, our profiles are both positive and upbeat: the company is Call-a-Cab in Eastbourne, and the driver is Yorkshireman Peter Crossley… quite a character. Don’t forget Ian Hall’s latest trip down Memory Lane taxi-wise.

Of course we must continue to bring readers the latest in in- dustry news, both good and bad. How about constructive? Look up the article highlighting which local authorities are offering grants to licence holders… the point being that more councils should be doing the same.

Our latest instalment of Cycle Lane Madness brings you up to date on the latest… er… madness both with the funding and putting in of ‘temporary’ (yeah, right) cycle lanes, and the sanction of e-scooters by both central Government and TfL. Has anybody seen that video clip of the man and two children riding e-scooters in the middle of the road, in the dark, with a vehicle not being able to pass or get round them? -Unbelievable… but likely coming to a neighbourhood near you. Watch out – whizz! What the hell was that??!!

We have a feature from Midlothian which describes how cross-border operations are affecting businesses Scottish- style. There is also a smattering of our usual departments including Round the Councils, Know Your Rights, and WTF (sorry… that should be WWTF – World Wide Taxi Focus). And of course a whole bunch of news stories.

To finish on a positive note, we wish each and every one of you as celebratory, financially lucrative and safe a festive season as it will be possible to enjoy in these uncertain times. Have a good read, as always.

DECEMBER 2020 LOVE IT
