ALL THE FUN OF THE FARE ON SPECIAL DAY OUT
Cabbies were left astonished by the warm welcome they received in Maldon. About 80 drivers took part in the East Lon- don Cabbies Outing bringing children with special needs from the east end of Lon- don to Maldon for the day. Organisation chair- man Ken Flemwell told the Maldon Standard: “It’s always a big wel- come. The new drivers were absolutely aston- ished. “They love the wel- come.” Hundreds of people lined the streets to watch the cabbie

procession to Plume
School, where lunch was laid on. The youngsters were then taken down to Prome- nade Park, where they enjoyed
entertain-

Len
Wingate, who sent cheques to the organi- sation for many years. The former cab driver, of Warwick Court, had never seen the pro- cession and so Mr Flemwell escorted him out in his cab. Maldon Pantomime Society also present- ed the group with a cheque for £400.
