LEICESTER KNIFEPOINT TAXI ROBBER JAILED
A man who threatened to stab a taxi driver in his cab has been found guilty of robbery and jailed tor five and a half years. According to the Leicester Mercury, Simon Robert Tous- saint, 49, took the cab to collect a wrap of cocaine from a dealer
and never intended paying the fare. He denied robbery but admitted making off without paying the £24 fare, in the early hours of December 7. Sentencing him at Leicester
Crown
Court, Judge Philip Head said: “You went on a drug-buying
expedition by taxi. “At the end of the jour- ney, you produced a knife in order to ob- tain £20 from the driver. I take the view it was pre-planned be- cause you had a knife. “He was a vulnerable victim. Taxi drivers are especially at risk of this sort of targeting.”
TEENAGER SENTENCED FOR KNIFE THREAT ON KIDDERMINSTER DRIVER

Worcester at knife- point in a terrifying late-night attack. According to the Worcester News, the teenager, now 16, hopped into a taxi driv- en by cab driver Mark Donovan last Decem-
ber, Worcester Crown Court heard. A nightmare journey followed where the Kidderminster

who cannot be named for
reasons,
threatened to stab Mr Donovan, put the point of the kitchen knife to his thigh, grabbed his throat and demanded his money. The teen,
who had 11 previous convictions, suddenly pulled the handbrake, causing the car to spin out of control and crash. The Judge sentenced him to 18 months in a young offender institu- tion for robbery and possession of a knife. He will serve half the sentence in custody.
DRUNK JAILED FOR RACIAL ATTACK ON NEWPORT DRIVER
A drunk golfer has been jailed for seven months for attacking an Asian taxi driver in the days after Lee Rigby’s murder. Kevin Dunne racially abused and physically attacked Shabir Ahmed and said he was linked to Rigby’s brutal killing. Dunne, 57, had been on a golfing holiday in Newport, when he attacked Ahmed, the
South Wales Argus reports.

Crown Court heard how Dunne said: “You know what happened last week in London? It was one of your brothers who done it.” Dunne then refused to pay the fare and pro- ceeded to head butt and punch Ahmed twice. Police arrived and arrested Dunne. Dunne admitted to
being drunk when he attacked Ahmed but denied racial abuse. Sentencing Dunne at Newport Crown Court, Judge Gaskell said: “The racially aggravat- ed part is significant, that
leaves him
[Ahmed] with an ongo- ing persistent fear that he’s going to be sub- ject to further assault for no other reason than that he is Asian.”
MAN LOCKED AWAY FOR MIDDLESBROUGH KNIFE ROBBERY
A prolific offender who robbed a taxi driver at knifepoint has started a seven-year sentence. Liam Bishop, 22, direct- ed the taxi driver to a dark area in Beech- wood, Middlesbrough, got out of the car and punched him in the face, Teesside Crown Court heard. He pulled out the GPS system and a panic button. He then snap- ped the key fob in the
ignition, pulled out a six-inch knife and threatened to stab the driver, demanding he hand over his satnav. When the driver did so, he was punched and threatened again. The driver jumped out of the car, punched his assailant and ran away as fast he could, flag- ging down a motorist who called police. The phone used to call the cab was traced to

an associate of Bish- op, who was arrested. Bishop, from Middles- brough, admitted the robbery - his third after two previous street attacks on strangers. According to the Teesside Gazette, the Judge decided Bishop posed a high risk of causing serious harm to the public, and imposed an extended sentence of seven years.
WARRINGTON MAN JAILED FOR CABBIE ATTACK
A 21-year-old Warring- ton man has been jailed after assaulting a taxi driver. Jacob Chantler had been drinking before getting into Ranveer Singh’s
taxi on
November 17 last year. A dispute began over the fare before the argument erupted into
violence. Warrington Crown Court heard that initial- ly punches were exchanged
before
Chantler bit the victim and got him in a head lock causing him to choke before kicking him in the shoulder. Mr Singh was taken to hospital where he was
treated for the bite mark and a dislocated shoulder. According to the War- rington Guardian, the Judge
Chantler
sentenced to eight
months behind bars, adding: “Taxi drivers are entitled to expect protection from this court.”
PRESTON DRIVER’S ATTACK ORDEAL ENDS IN JAIL FOR TWO MEN
Two men who hijacked a black cab in Preston have been jailed for a total of three years. As reported in PHTM last month, Jamshed Ahmed’s ordeal began when he picked up Daniel Houghton, 40, and James Gardner, 52, from a Preston rank last September. The men smashed
safety glass and grabbed the driver by the throat. In a bid to attract the attention of police offi- cers, Mr Ahmed drove through a red light and the wrong way down a one-way
street,
towards the taxi rank, where he knew offi- cers would
be patrolling the queue.
He collided with the waiting taxis, in the process breaking his foot and the leg of another driver. According to the Lan- cashire Evening Post, the Judge jailed both men for 18 months after the jury found them guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to both drivers.
