company identifications. Simply submit a picture online and Axinite will do the rest. The fleeces and trousers that I saw looked and felt good and looked able to withstand the rigours of the jobsite.

Cutting it I cut a lot of timber, ply, OSB, worktops and such, so I always need sharp blades. Generally, I resharpen quality blades, but I am always on the lookout for those blades that I think might break the ‘you get what you pay for’ rule in buying tools. I live in hope most of the time, but I need to take a longer look at the Key Blades and Fixings cutters and blades. The sawblades, router cutters, multi-tool cutters and jigsaw blades that I examined looked and felt like good quality items – but they were very reasonably priced. Here’s hoping.

Filling in Toupret fillers are part of a huge range of fillers and coatings. I recommend a good read of the small Toupret User Guide Book if you have a problem and are looking for solutions. The standard interior mix-it- yourself Toupret filler is my go-to when I do decorating jobs because of its silky-smooth texture and ease of finish – although I have complained about the drying times, especially on a cold and damp winter’s day. The new Toupret Patch and Repair Filler will fix and fill larger gaps, cracks and scratches and can be painted just three hours after application – sounds like the solution to my dilemma!

TOOLFAIR is not all tools I guess that it is a sign of the times that a tool show can no longer fill a whole hall, but it is equally true that tool users cover all the trades so it makes sense to include plumbing, windows, doors, lighting, power

and ‘smart’ technologies that we are told are the future. TOOLFAIR therefore includes ELEX2020 and PLUMBEXPO under its umbrella and in truth there are many areas within these that intrigue me.

LED lighting is now being widely adopted, and it won’t be too long before domestic users will have to consider ditching oil and gas in favour of electric boilers and radiators. Sussex, where I am based, is almost completely and sustainably powered by a large windfarm in the sea off Brighton. The future may be closer than I think...

I can foresee a time when ELEX might be the centre of a show because the level and scope of innovation in the electrical trades will be much more important in combating carbon emissions. Electrical devices will be more widely adopted and more complicated – and maybe the show itself will be a virtual one? The logic is there, but I still quite like meeting with humans and handling real tools for the moment.
