WASTE RECYCLING VWS launches WiFi weighing
VEHICLE Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) has launched a ground-breaking new product development giving customers WiFi connectivity to their vehicle weighing systems and access to live operational weight data via a phone or tablet.
The VWS WiFi HUB integrates with the VWS LIVE portal to give operators immediate remote access to transactional data such as weights, alerts and vehicle(s) location. VWS has also developed its own app – VWS LIVE - to enable all authorised personnel to access the same data using a phone or tablet. The WiFi HUB actively monitors real-time diagnostics which are then relayed back to the VWS Service Department, providing information for analysis and future product development. The WiFi HUB can be used on tippers and vehicle overload protection systems and is compatible with VWS VOPS™2 and LOADWEIGH FOR TIPPERS.
Trevor Evans, operational director at VWS, said: “We are incredibly proud of the WiFi HUB and what the team have achieved over the last few months. The Wifi Hub doesn’t need to be installed inside
the vehicle, simplifying the installation. Live weighing and load data can be accessed wirelessly from a smartphone or tablet via the VWS LIVE app. This means that operators and business owners can view real-time operational data from any location.
“The vehicle weight is visible from outside the cab and operations can run more smoothly because shovel loaders, drivers and operators have access to the same information. The system has additional messaging features to help improve communications.”
A British company, VWS is the market leader in vehicle on-board weighing, axle overload protection and bin-weighing solutions. The company manufactures all its own load cells and installs its equipment here in the UK. VWS systems are widely used in municipalities and commercial waste contractors all across Europe.
Scotland Excel undertakes organics procurement process
A PROCUREMENT process to treat the organic waste of all 32 of Scotland’s councils is being undertaken by Scotland Excel.
Scotland Excel is the Centre of Procurement Expertise for local government – an award-winning non-profit shared service working in partnership with local authorities, housing associations and other public sector organisations.
They have delivered the Scottish Government funded Procurement Improvement Programme since 2017 which enables housing associations to benchmark their existing procurement capability and identify opportunities for improvement.

framework is a renewal of a highly successful framework agreement that offers local authorities treatment options for organic waste, including food and garden waste primarily collected from householders. This third-generation framework is part of the Scotland Excel Environment Category portfolio that assists councils in delivering their statutory obligation to provide an essential waste management service.
“On 9 March 2020 a Prior Information Notice (PIN) was published on Public Contracts Scotland to inform the market of the forthcoming opportunity.
“In light of the current situation with Covid-19 we are offering phone meetings to interested parties that had already contacted us; details can be found on the Public Contracts Scotland website.”
The framework is available to all 32 Councils in Scotland and to date 23 councils have awarded contracts under this arrangement.
