ADVERTORIAL
grab, and two large selector grabs with SiteZone RFID proximity warning systems.
SiteZone Safety sent their own tech support to complete, correct, and refine installation on the proximity warning system. This was further supported by a toolbox talk given by Graham Melvill Applications Specialist at SiteZone Safety to inform the site workers of how SiteZone would keep them safe on site, and how to use it to full advantage.
The outcome and benefits of using the SiteZone system? ISM’s SHEQ Manager, Richard Carter said, “SiteZone has proven to be a welcome addition to the site operations for ISM. Even though at first it was a major change that employees had to get used to, they became accustomed to using the system over a period of between three to six months.
It’s not just the site workers who appreciate the benefit. The joint managing directors John and Peter Allen are fully behind the use of SiteZone system and are always looking at ways that its application can further improve safety on the site.”
ISM’s safety reports have reflected the positive change since SiteZone has been installed on all the vehicles. From the SHEQ manager’s point of view, he can prioritise other matters that need his focus, with an extra level of safety on the site.
The best benefit of using SiteZone is as an enhancement to existing control measures already implemented, such as walkways and pedestrian crossings which already segregate vehicle and pedestrian movement. SiteZone was introduced as an additional measure around the
site to give the drivers of plant vehicles more awareness of other employees, contractors or visitors that ever come into proximity of ISM’s working vehicles. This is exactly how SiteZone is intended to be used – as a complementary system, not a replacement for other tried and tested safety protocols.
Listening is a big part of safety practice Listening to the employees using the SiteZone system was highlighted as a vital tool in raising safety standards. By taking their needs on board, it was possible to fine tune the performance of the proximity warning system as a safety tool for their specific working environment.
Now, workers have a heightened sense of security while they are doing their job in high collision risk situations. For more information, visit their website at
