IN DEPTH
Meet the CILIP 125
As part of last year’s celebration marking 125 years of CILIP’s Royal Charter, 125 information professionals were recognised for the impact they are having on the profession. In the first in a series of upcoming articles, we speak to some of those representing the CILIP 125.
LAST year as CILIP celebrated 125 years since the award of a Royal Charter to the Library Association, it was a time to reflect

The Royal Charter sets out the objectives and purposeofCILIP,itprovidesthestrong baseforouractivitiesandongoingethi- cal framework and ensures values are at the heart of CILIP’s work.
Those values and ethics underpin the work of information professionals, helping to ensure equitable access to reliable information and knowledge, in increasingly turbulent times. The CILIP 125 are a new generation of lead- ers, future leaders, innovators, advocates and information professionals who will be moving library, information and knowledge manage- ment forward – facing challenges and embrac- ing opportunity.
However, this future generation does not begin and end with the CILIP 125. Instead, we will be seeing more and more people enter the profession – whether in traditional or emerg- ing roles – and each of the new starters will be part of a growing professional network with an eye on the future. The coming year will see work to develop that community, helping to

create a space for peer support, networking, professional development and opportunities for those in the early stages of their careers, helping all those who join the profession to achieve their ambitions.
