New CILIP Group Launches Special Interest Groups are a crucial source of knowledge and expertise for CILIP members. Without SIGs we would not be able to deliver the training, networking and collaboration that is so vital for members of a professional body.

CILIP Board has agreed to, in effect, create a new group by broadening the scope of CILIP RPG. Along with the new Community Strategy and Member Council this should help us to facilitate collaborative working across regional groups and SIGs.

“The CILIP Board authorises the Retired Professionals Group to adopt the name ‘CILIP RPG’ and the strapline ‘For those outside full time work’ in their marketing and communications.”

The CILIP RPG Committee is kicking off a conversation as to how CILIP RPG can connect members outside full-time work across the UK and beyond. Some initial thoughts to feed into discussions leading to the creation of a business plan:

l Identify “ambassadors” to link into the broader target membership

l Create “personas” to build up a picture of the needs of as many

Ian Orton (ianorton5@gmail.com) is CILIP RPG Chair and Senior Public Librarian

members as possible who are outside full-time work

l Create further links across regional Member Networks

l Build on virtual and in person presence in each of the nations

l Build on links with specific SIGs of interest (egs KIM, UKeIG, HLG ) to develop our work with link people and channels for future collaboration

l Work with the CILIP Benevolent Fund and others to feed into the CILIP RPG webinar programme

l Work across CILIP to ensure that events, including CILIP Conference and CILIP Residential Study Weekend are accessible and affordable for those outside full time work

l Increase activity whilst minimising time, effort and cost for volunteers and paid staff across the CILIP organisation.

Please join us if you are outside full- time work or looking at different work patterns. There is no extra charge to join CILIP RPG. We will keep you up to date with a monthly newsletter and the PostLib journal. If you are retired, semi-retired, unemployed, on a career break, on parental leave or volunteering we look forward to hearing from you. Contact Ian Orton at ianorton5@gmail.com or on 07841 577991.
