A picture is worth a thousand words
THE LibraryOn team is calling for public library services to share photos to help showcase the brilliant work being done by libraries. LibraryOn, previously known as the single digital presence, is being developed to showcase public libraries and provide a national space for services. It is funded by Arts Council England and aims “to increase the number of people who use libraries, both in person and online. “[LibraryOn will] celebrate what librar- ies do and what people love about them. And we help more people understand what their library offers – from reading for plea- sure and purpose to social activities that
unite communities, combat loneliness and increase wellbeing.”
With that idea of celebrating the best that
is on offer in local libraries, LibraryOn is keen to create a resource of photographs that can be used to help illustrate good news stories from the sector. A spokesperson for LibraryOn said: “As we build LibraryOn we want to be able to share the best of what libraries offer communities. We’re looking for high-quality images to use on the plat- form that demonstrate what the modern public library does and their impact. For example places where people can work, study and learn; groups offering support,
learning and companionship; friendly interactions between staff and customers; and storytimes that children and carers enjoy together. “If you have pictures that fit the bill, please send them to us, including relevant information such as the name of the library and the setting.”
Images can be emailed direct to the team, or shared through a file-sharing tool such as WeTransfer or by using a link to an online album. All submitted photographs should have the relevant permissions and include photo credits. Send photos to
hello@libraryon.org, using the subject line Library Photos.
