Conference revamp provides new opportunities for the profession
CILIP has announced a new direc- tion for its annual Conference, which will be taking place in Birmingham on 12 and 13 July.
The new format shifts to a residential conference that will provide delegates with two days of inspiring talks, work shops and networking opportunities. This year’s conference is focused on a theme of lead- ership and will bring together established, emerging and aspiring leaders to discuss and explore “top of mind” challenges and opportunities in the library, information and knowledge-management sector. The programme will focus on topics
such as organisational resilience, digital leadership and leading inclusive services, amongst others. There will also be strands aimed at career development and empowering leaders of the future to take their next steps into managerial positions; a key focus for CILIP as the organisation seeks to support the sec- tor’s current leadership gap.
A roster of exciting keynote speakers
is already confirmed, including Masud Khokhar, University Librarian and Keeper of the Brotherton Collection at the Univer- sity of Leeds, and journalist and author Sathnam Sanghera. The popular ‘New Voices, Big Ideas’ session will be making a return in 2023, alongside dedicated sessions designed to support delegates in their career develop ment. For KM and IM practi-
tioners (or people considering making a career change), CILIP will once again be offering a ‘conference-within-a-conference’ addressing the big themes in Knowledge Management, Information Governance and IM. As in previous years, a comprehensive exhibition floor will also feature, giving delegates the opportunity to connect with suppliers and take advantage of exclusive discounts for the duration of the event. Nick Poole, CILIP Chief Executive, said: “The CILIP team and I are really excited about this new direction for Conference in
2023. We are looking forward to bringing the theme of ‘Leadership’ to life from our five-year strategy and action plan We Are CILIP. We are looking forward to welcoming our audience of established, emerging and aspiring leaders to the beautiful surround- ings of the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, and to sharing with you some inspiring keynotes,
fascinating insights and an opportunity to develop your leadership net- work.”
Registration is now open and delegates can take advantage of a limited run of early bird rates, at
