S we approach our third AGM in early 2023, the CILIP LGBTQ+ Committee thought it was a good
time to re-introduce ourselves and give you the opportunity to meet our newer Committee members.
Deborah Varenna – Chair (she/her) Deborah is the Directorate Co- ordinator for the Disclosure and Barring Service’s Knowledge Management team. She also has experience of working in public, FE, and third sector libraries. She is also a graduate with an MA in Librarianship. Having written multiple essays on queerness, representation, and intersectionality in current media and in medieval literature, she is passionate about ensuring that all voices are heard. Deborah identifi es as a queer, cis woman.
Michelle Moyer – Secretary (she/her) Michelle a secondary school librarian. She has an MSc in Library and Information Science from Syracuse University in New York. She has worked in academic, corporate, and public libraries, and is a newly Chartered librarian. Michelle identifi es as a bisexual, cis woman.
Natalie Brown – Treasurer (she/her) Natalie is a full time Library Customer Services Team Leader at a HE institution. She has experience in public libraries, HE libraries and law libraries. Moving into the HE sector encouraged her to study for an MA in Library and Information Management with the University of Sheffi eld. After graduating in 2018 she is in the process of working towards Chartership, is a member of her institution’s LGBTQ+ network and passionate about making spaces for LGBTQ+ and how managers can support their LGBTQ+ colleagues. Natalie identifi es as a bisexual, cis woman.

Kirsten Elliot – Digital Champion (she/her)
Kirsten has moved into public library work since arriving in England, but in New Zealand was a secondary school library manager and digital archivist. Identifying as queer and chronically ill/disabled, she is increasingly interested in how she can eff ect change in diversity, equality and inclusion matters arising in the workplace as well as in library users’ experiences. Kirsten is a Chartered Information Professional and has previously been an Executive Board member of Rainbow Youth (NZ) and served on the Waikato/Bay of Plenty regional committee of the School Library Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (SLANZA). Kirsten identifi es as a queer, cis woman.
Leona Stewart (she/her) Leona is the Acting College Librarian at an Oxford college. She has graduated with an MA in Library & Information Services Management from the University of Sheffi eld and has worked in academic libraries and special collections for over fi ve years. Leona identifi es as a queer, cis woman.
Binni Brynolf (they/them) Binni is the Digital Resources Librarian at Chatham House, a policy institute in international aff airs based in London, and has worked in libraries for more than 25 years in the UK and Sweden. Binni has been a Trustee of CILIP since January 2020, is a trade union rep for Prospect, and chair of their workplace’s LGBTQ+ Staff Network. Binni is queer and trans non-binary.
Ash Green (they/them) Ash graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA(Hons) degree in Information and Library Management in 1994. After graduation they worked in higher education libraries, and then Surrey County Council Public Library Service for 22 years. They are now in a technical role within a university

Carl Banks (he/him)
Carl is the Library Assistant at The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, CILIP London Committee Diversity and Inclusion Rep, and Co-Secretary of the Consortium for Independent Health Libraries in London (CHILL). He’s also a trade union workplace and regional equality rep. Carl identifi es as a gay cis man.
