Emerging leaders


AN online session focused on emerging leaders will include a talk about new models of leadership and their potential impact in libraries by Masud Khokhar, University Librarian and Keeper of the Brotherton Collection at the University of Leeds. The event is part of CILIPS 2022 online Autumn Gatherings and takes place on 20 October from 1-4pm. Fundamentals of Copyright course


A FUNDAMENTAL introduction to basic copyright principles for anyone reproduc- ing, creating, sharing, publishing, commis- sioning or digitising content will run in two parts on the 18 and 25 October. Poetry Prompts campaign launch


JOSEPH Coelho, has revealed details of ‘Poetry Prompts’ his first campaign as the Waterstone’s Children’s Laureate. The campaign aims to break down the fear often associated with reading and writing and show why poems are for everyone. Joseph said: “There is baggage associated with poetry that I want everyone to put down – to allow everyone to reclaim the birth right of poet.”


From 6 October he will share a weekly ‘Poetry Prompts’ video to inspire the nation, young and old, to write poems and to become poets.

Register now for free Green Libraries Conference


THE power of libraries to deliver a green agenda will be explored in the Green Libraries Conference 2022, tak ing place on 25 November in London.


The free conference is one-day event that focuses on how libraries can be part of a sustainable future for the planet by making changes for themselves and empowering communities to make a positive impact. The theme of the conference is Working Together for People and Planet, and will feature PehcaKucha style presentations alongside panel discussions and keynote speakers.


Earlier this year the Green Libraries Partnership was launched, providing a common space for libraries in England to develop, share and deliver strategies that support the Green agenda. The conference


will look at twin themes of “Reducing our environmental impact”, helping libraries to find solutions to cutting their envi- ronmental footprint; and “Engaging and Informing Our Communities”, focusing on how libraries can support community goals to create a more sustainable future. The conference, supported by Arts Coun-

Updated Public Libraries Manifesto from IFLA


THE latest version of the IFLA-UNESCO Public Libraries Manifesto is now avail- able, delivering a renewed declaration for libraries to support democracy. The manifesto was originally created more than 30 years ago, and highlighted the power of access to information as a means of creating democratic societies. New novel for Rae PEOPLE NEWS


AUTHOR, librarian and CILIP member Rachel Sargeant has released her fourth novel – Her Deadly Friend. The book, written under the name Rae Sargeant,


is the first in the Gleveham Killers series, and is published by Hobeck books. Rachel has previously worked as librarian at a prep school in Cheltenham as well as group manager for Bromley Libraries. She continues to work in schools and libraries, provid- ing reading and writing workshops.
