We are CILIP – Information, Knowledge, Libraries changing lives together
We Are CILIP – the new five-year action plan to build new skills, develop the information and knowledge workforce and support members throughout their career launches this month. Nick Poole looks at what it means for the profession and why it matters.
CILIP has developed its new strategy and action plan to help deliver positive change for individuals, organisations and communities that work and use information, knowledge and library services. We are CILIP celebrates CILIP’s role in uniting everyone with a professional connection to libraries, knowledge and information, with a shared belief in their power to change lives.
With new ways of working in a post-pan- demic world where data, information and knowledge are crucial drivers of innovation, the information and knowledge professions will be central to delivering services that have a positive impact on society. Information professionals have a central role to play in this new landscape, and We are CILIP sets out how we will help our members to move from ‘information managers to information leaders’ in every sector.
We are CILIP captures a key moment in the development of our profession – that we are evolving into an embedded profession which brings together the skills of librarianship, information and knowledge management and data science to make a positive differ- ence for users, communities, organisations and businesses. Supporting members, supporting each other.

Association under Royal Charter in 1898, our community has unified librarians and information professionals across sec- tors, working together to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our society through ethical access to quality informa- tion.

We are CILIP identifies a single common purpose “to unite, support and empower information professionals in all sectors”. It utilises CILIP’s broad membership base as a key strength, where it acts as an umbrella organisation that is “here for everyone who has a professional connection to libraries,
