Join the Libraries Week celebrations and help Share the Change


Libraries Week is back next month and there is still time to get involved and help celebrate the best of what is on offer in libraries. Here we take a look at this year’s theme and how to get involved.


LIBRARIES Week takes place from 4-10 October and CILIP is asking as many library services as possible to join this year’s celebrations. Each year CILIP’s Libraries Week brings together libraries and information services from different sectors across the UK, giving them a platform to tell their communities, and users about the all the great services they offer. Libraries Week is an opportunity for services to showcase what they do, reaching out to users and non-users and giving people another reason to visit and engage.


Libraries Week features a different theme each year and for 2021, CILIP has drawn inspiration from the way libraries reacted to the Covid-19 pandemic. The theme of Taking Action, Changing Lives will look at how the work of libraries can have a dramatic, transformative effect on people’s lives and circumstances, and on the wider community.


During the pandemic lockdowns librar- ies became a very visible lifeline for many, helping to reduce isolation for thousands of vulnerable people. In the health sector libraries played a crucial role in sharing emerging knowledge as medical staff learned more about the virus.
