For seven young men, summer 2019 was ful l of growth and training as they voluntar i ly par t icipated in one of the nat ion?s most respected and select ive educat ional programs of government instruct ion for high school students: Amer ican Legion Boys State.
Founded in 1935, high school juniors who have demonstrated leadership, character , scholarship, loyal ty and service in their schools and communi ty are selected and sponsored by local Legion posts to at tend a weeklong training session that focuses on the structure of ci ty, county and state governments.
?The best par t of my exper ience at Boys State was the brotherhood created wi th the other guys that represented Chino Val ley. I learned a lot about how government operates and have goals to ei ther work in pol i t ics or become a broadcast journal ist who repor ts on pol i t ics. Boys State was defini tely a highl ight of my high school career and I recommend i t to anyone who wants to learn more about government ,? said Paul Maragni , one of three Boys State representat ives from Ayala high school .
