What you need to know

Making Arrangements. First of all, decide where and when you would like your ceremony to take place.

If this is to be in one of the Town hall rooms or one of our Approved Premises you will need to arrange for our Registrars to attend.

You can pay a provisional booking fee to save a date and time up to 2 years in advance. This fee is in addition to the notice of marriage and ceremony fee.

Please email ceremoniesteam@sheffield.gov.uk or ring our ceremonies team on 01142039420 to do this.

Giving notice of marriage or civil partnership

You must each attend at the Register Office where you live to give notice. This is different if one or both of you is not an EU national – please contact us if this is the case.

Giving notice means making a declaration that you are both free to marry or enter into a civil partnership and fulfil other requirements prescribed by law.

Legally you may do this up to one year before the day of your ceremony.

You both need to give notice at least 28 clear days before your wedding day. This is to allow for any legal objections to be raised.

A fee will be charged for you to give notice and for the cost of your ceremony and certificate.
