The bridge housing project will construct six units for families who are temporarily unhoused. Each unit will include two bedrooms, a living room, full kitchen, and a full bathroom. Strategically located across Eliseo C. Felix, Jr. Way from the Avondale Care First Resource Center, the project will ensure that services are readily available to help Avondale families, when they are completed in April 2026. The project is a partnership with Maricopa County and is partially funded with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) monies.
RENOVATION PROJECTS:
Friendship Park Dog Park Improvements Project Budget - $1,503,000
This beloved community spot is getting a major upgrade to make it more fun and functional for our furry friends and their families. Here’s what’s in store: shade canopies and trees for cooler playtime, new benches for relaxing, water fountains for hydration, area lighting for safety, upgraded entry and exit gates, and improved drainage and irrigation.
The park will also feature a refreshed entry plaza with a future public art installation, thanks to support from the Avondale Municipal Art Committee. Covering just over an acre, the park
includes two separate areas for large and small dogs, plus turf designed for easy maintenance.
Pickleball Courts Coming to Friendship Park Project Budget - $2,051,000
Pickleball fans, get ready! Avondale is building eight brand-new pickleball courts at Friendship Park—right next to the existing tennis and basketball courts—to keep up with the sport’s booming popularity. Here’s what’s included: energy-efficient lighting for evening games, shaded seating for spectators, drinking fountain, windscreens for better play conditions, two practice walls for warm-ups, improved landscaping, and enhanced sidewalks for easier access. Once complete, these new courts will give residents more ways to stay active, connect with others,
and enjoy the outdoors! 20 • RAVE January - April 2026
