ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH!

Did you know that missing just two days of school a month can put children at risk of academic failure?

Attendance matters as early as kindergarten. Kids who miss too many days in kinder- garten and first grade often have trouble mastering reading by the end of third grade. By middle and high school, chronic absence is a leading warning sign that a student will drop out.

ATTEND TODAY, ACHIEVE TOMORROW GOOD SCHOOL ATTENDANCE MEANS...

` Build a habit of good attendance at an early age.

` Develop homework and bedtime routines that allow for 9-11 hours of sleep for younger kids, 8-9 hours for older children.

` Line up family vacations and doctor appointments with the school’s schedule to avoid missed days.

` Get to know your child’s teachers. Stay on top of their academic progress to make sure your child stays on track.

MIDDLE SCHOOLERS

HIGH SCHOOLERS

stay on track for graduation

Too many absences—excused or unexcused—can keep students from succeeding in school and in life. How many are too many? 10% of the school year—that’s 18 missed days or 2 days a month—can knock students off track.

Above all, set a good example. Show your child that attendance truly matters to you and that you won’t allow an absence unless he/she is truly sick.
