the time. We have a better chance of avoiding the times when we feel forced to bite the bullet and take a carrier whose rate is so exorbitantly high that we’ll be taking a loss on the load. We’re able to mitigate those losses so that we keep net rates flat and margins steady.”
• TopMatch uses Carrier Scorecard data to help us find the most dependable carriers
“When you onboard a new carrier and assign them their first load, there is always more risk involved in terms of a service failure. We mitigate a lot of that risk by continuing to do business with the same carriers. We have an internal history on these carriers, we have a track record with them, and their Carrier Scorecard data is part of the TopMatch profile. We can see if they have a good service record history and how much volume they’ve been handling for us, so we know instantly if they are an effective carrier. We get to avoid running the risk of using a carrier that we have little or no history with over the past year.”
• Our TopMatch profile includes PNN data
“McLeod’s Private Notification Network (PNN) is an important tool for us, because it’s another way to strengthen relationships with our top carriers. We’re careful to send out PNN load offers only to carriers who actively demonstrate they want to haul for us. Carriers have their lane preferences listed within PNN and we use that data as part of the configuration for our TopMatch profile. In defining the profile we give quite a bit of weight to whether or not the carrier is set up on our PNN list. We regard these carriers as ones who truly want to partner with us. Being in Sunset’s PNN gives them a special status that not all carriers have.”
