A night to remember...
On Monday 7 May TRBusiness was proud to stage the first ever consumer voted Travel Retail Awards, which took place at the statuesque Conrad Centennial Hotel in Singapore.
D
uring the glittering awards ceremony TRBusiness and m1nd-set crowned the industry’s trailblazers, by combining expert research and priceless consumer
blogger and vlogger (video blogger) feedback in a rigorous and thorough judging process. The joint venture game-changing initiative recognised true
ingenuity in travel retailing, with a total of nineteen awards (five airport, 14 product categories) handed out on the night. For the first time in travel retail history, suppliers, airports and
retailers discovered which airports and travel retail products are truly loved by travelling consumers from all over the world. Guests enjoyed a fun-packed evening with cocktails, a four-
course sit-down dinner, entertainment, drinks and networking laced with TRBusiness’ inimitable dose of added hospitality – a fantastic after party with a live band. TRBusiness has already received some excellent feedback
from entrants and guests alike, who say they cannot wait for next year’s event, which we can promise will be even bigger and better.
Why we did it… As the industry is well aware, keeping pace with the demands of today’s increasingly diverse and ever-discerning travelling consumer is a challenge. Catering for millennials and Generation Z, without forgetting
Generations X and Y, requires uniquely tailored approaches to brand marketing, promotion and engagement to justify return on investment. Amplifying brands’ share of voice in an intensely competitive
marketplace dictated by the battle for wall and aisle space, rising concession fees, and pressure on margin returns requires brands, retailers and airports to work ever more collaboratively. Satisfying the bottom line and return on investment is
not unique to travel retail, but capturing a greater slice of consumers’ attention in a time-strapped airport retail environment is. There are now more and more distractions to divert revenue
away from retail, which today requires a new approach, as we all face up to the reality that footfall and in-store penetration does not match with the exponential growth in passenger traffic. The Travel Retail Awards was conceived with one simple
purpose: To recognise and celebrate excellence in our industry through the eyes of the consumer. All finalists are able to display the prestigious Travel Retail Awards ‘Voted by Shoppers’ logo, with a special gold seal of approval for winners. This logo will act as a marker of tangible consumer approval.
Travellers will be able to identify levels of excellence in brand and airport ingenuity all around the world in a form they can trust: voted for by their fellow shoppers. ¢
