The first two years of the course are similar to BSc/MSci Mathematics, providing a broad background in mathematics alongside European language units. Year one consists of compulsory topics. Year two allows you to choose some topics that are of particular interest to you, meaning you can continue with a varied degree or choose to specialise. Provided you fulfil progression requirements, you will spend your third year abroad at one of our partner universities studying mathematics in a foreign language. BSc/MSci Mathematics and Philosophy A-levels A*AA (AAB†

These courses combine the quantitative problem solving of mathematics with the analytical and reflective thinking skills of philosophy. Your mathematics will focus on the areas of pure mathematics most connected to philosophical study, such as geometry, algebra, set theory and logic, which acts as a bridge between the two subjects. You will be able to choose from a range of philosophy units relating to the physical and social sciences.


In your first year you will take 80 credit points in mathematics and 40 in philosophy. In year two, 60 credit points are compulsory, while the third and fourth years allow you to choose a variety of units in both subjects. You will complete a philosophy project in your final year.


BSc/MSci Mathematics and Physics A-levels A*AA (AAB†

This course is particularly suited to students who have a strong interest in theoretical physics or applied mathematics. Your mathematics study will focus on the areas of applied mathematics that are most linked to physics, such as the mathematical modelling of physical problems, quantum mechanics and quantum chaos. You will also cover a range of topics in physics, such as thermal physics, electromagnetism and semiconductors. You will take 70 credit points in mathematics and 50 in physics in the first year. All first-year and most second-year units are fixed, but in your third and fourth years you can choose options to suit your interests across both mathematics and physics. You will complete a physics project in your final year.
