Smart design choices permeate Evergreen Village at Bloomington, which serves an ex- clusively low- and middle- income population. The exterior of the 115-residence assist-
ed living community mixes traditional and contemporary elements using a variety of materials. A bold corner tower provides a focal point that gives the property a distinc- tive look. The interiors are smart and clean with
colorful accents and dark bead board ceil- ings in certain areas. A fire wall creates a warm gathering spot in the lobby. “There’s a lot of attention to detail,” said Phil Renzi, senior project manager at The Architectural Team, Inc. by Gardant Management Solutions and de- veloped by Evergreen Partners. Evergreen Village is situated in a residen-
tial area of the city adjacent to a walking trail. The 6.2-acre site is sloped, which pre- sented some design challenges. But the site features beautiful natural landscapes includ- ing a creek and a large tree-covered hill. “In the autumn, it’s spectacular,” said Renzi. To take advantage of the views and the
natural sloped grade of the site, a walkout lower level was incorporated into the de- sign. This level includes a dining room, bis- tro, and a big covered wraparound porch. Residents have views of the walking trail, creek, and the trees on the hill. “You don’t find settings like this very often,” said Renzi. “It is a gem.”
