EDITOR’S LETTER

PRESIDENT & CEO James Balda jbalda@argentum.org

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER Gina Mamone

Welcome to the fi rst issue of 2023: The Leadership Issue. Now more than ever senior living professionals are engaging new ideas on how best to innovate in any number of areas, including leadership. Never a one-size-fi ts-all topic, the various ways in which C-suite executives organize their companies and cultivate their culture are as unique as the people who they are seeking to welcome into their communities, employ, and motivate to provide the highest quality care for senior living residents.

The articles inside this issue encapsulate many views on how to lead, and give deep background on how leaders came to fi nd their comfort zones in being both a “boss” and a visionary for their employees, as well as a strategic thinker to meet the demands of the marketplace, not to mention investors. Readers will also note the role of the pandemic and how executives were changed in some small or large ways to guide their companies through the roughest waters ever experienced in senior living. Leadership in practice is also vital to covering the overall topic, and for that we delved into the great diversity movement (DEIB) to show how leadership at the top of an organization makes all of the diff erence. So, please start your journey on p. 8 to read the cover story and related article on the broad concepts behind leadership, before digging into the ways in which Argentum is attempting to capture the future with its new strategic vision strategy on p. 15, and how to lead and implement a culture for sustainable and successful DEIB on p. 20.
