MEET OUR EXPERTS Summer 2020

It’s been a tumultuous few months – a time when schools have had to deal with all manner of uncertainties and wild cards, and when the phrase ‘we’re all in this together’ has never felt so resonant. So we’ve compiled this issue of FundEd around the theme of building bridges, and we’ve filled it with ideas, inspiration and innovative case studies on how to do just that.

There’s little doubt that schools work better when they work together – and our cover story on page 13 shows how schools have been able to save money, boost income and generate exciting opportunities for pupils by partnering across sectors and regions.

Schools also benefit from successful partnerships with their communities of families, local people and businesses. In our Partnerships section, SBM Phil Burton provides tops tips for engaging all three groups. We also profile two schools that have built a wealth of community support and goodwill around groundbreaking initiatives in beekeeping and art.

If you’re lucky enough to have a PTA, then nurturing that relationship will pay dividends, as Sharon Noble demonstrates on page 22. And when it comes to writing that all-important grant application bid (page 40), Justin Smith highlights how knitting together all your various partnership strands will support your pitch.

So reach out, connect – and tell us your stories. Jane Hughes, editor
