Mains of Taymouth Country Estate and Golf Course in Kenmore, Perthshire A LEISURELY APPROACH TO GROWTH
With little sign of the boom in staycations slowing a Lancashire based holiday company has continued its UK expansion plans with a prestigious deal north of the border.
Carnforth-based Pure Leisure Group has acquired Mains of Taymouth Country Estate and Golf Course in Kenmore, Perthshire, for an undisclosed sum.
The five-star venue offers holiday home rental and ownership, including static caravans, holiday lodges, and a collection of 19th century cottages. These are complemented by the on-site golf course, bar, restaurant, delicatessen and shop.
Prior to the deal, the business had been under ownership of the Menzies family for more than 100 years. Mains of Taymouth will now become a part of Pure Leisure Group’s Royal Westmoreland brand, which includes its luxury beach resort in Barbados.
John Morphet, owner of holiday park specialist Pure Leisure, says: “Mains of Taymouth complements our Gledfield Highland Estate and Royal Westmoreland Resort perfectly.
“With spectacular scenery and five-star service and accommodation, it is the ideal addition, and we know our customers will love to stay here, be it as guests or holiday homeowners. It was simply an opportunity we couldn’t miss.”
Richard Moss, of commercial real estate firm Colliers, who arranged the deal, says: “It’s been a pleasure to deal with such a knowledgeable and experienced acquisition team, who were bowled over by the quality of the estate, as well as the exciting expansion prospects going forward.
“The estate has been in the family for 100 years so it was crucial we found an appropriate buyer. We’re totally confident that Pure Leisure’s arrival will be nothing but good news for customers, staff and the area.”
The Perthshire deal follows on from a busy period of acquisitions by Pure Leisure. In May last year it added three new parks to its portfolio as it looked to take advantage of the staycation boom.
The business increased its offering through the acquisitions of Country Holiday Parks and Doe Wood Lodges for undisclosed sums.
Six Arches, in Scorton near Garstang, and Cockerham Sands on the banks of the Lune Estuary are both well established and popular parks. Coniston View sits on the Furness peninsula, near Ulverston.
The acquisitions took Pure Leisure’s portfolio of holiday parks across the UK to 19, as well as the Gledfield Highland Estate in northern Scotland and Royal Westmorland, and put the number of people it employs nationally over the 280 mark.
The three parks all offer holiday home ownership opportunities, while Six Arches and Cockerham Sands also have a choice of accommodation available to rent.
The group made the acquisitions as it forecast staycations were set for another bumper year while the international travel industry continued to be affected by the pandemic.
John said at the time: “The demand for UK breaks is unprecedented and so this expansion could not come at a better time.
“Many holidaymakers have rediscovered what fantastic staycation opportunities Great Britain has to offer over the past year, and we are delighted to provide them the chance to experience them with us.”
Pure Leisure also has plans to develop a 67-acre, £35m golf resort and holiday village near Poulton-le-Fylde. Larbreck Golf and Leisure Village is expected to contribute £2.5m each year to the local economy.
