GOOD FIELD CORN Q Shumway’s Seed Corn For Ensilage or Grain.

includes both open-pollinated varieties, proving their worth by passing the test of time, and hybrid varieties, for increased vigor and grain yield.

09925 HYBRID XTRA EARLY 330. The earliest field corn we offer, maturing in only 80 to 95 days. Xtra Early 330 is ideal for the Dakotas, Minneso- ta, Wisconsin, Michigan, upstate New York and all parts of New England. Despite its earliness, the ears are of medium size on a stalk that ranges from medium to medium-short. Yields are excellent for this maturity. We recommend Xtra Early 330 for grain production only. Other varieties we of- fer are better for ensilage. Seedling vigor is exceptional; plant at a population of 22-25M for best results. Increas- ingly becoming the variety of choice for late no-till. Seed is treated to enhance early emergence. Our best early va- riety for the extreme North, not recommended south of Interstate-80. A yellow type with very good root strength and dry down.

Our Finest Hybrid Varieties A FULL BAG CONTAINS approx. 80M Kernels (EXCEPT GOLIATH SILO) AND WEIGHS ABOUT 50 LBS.

09905 HYBRID E-Z-PIK 355. The easiest picking variety we have yet developed. E-Z-Pik 355 has excep- tional picker ratings, with high yields of extra-large, clean, yellow, free-of-husk ears. Large ears mature early on medium stalks of very good quality. We recommend a population of 22-25M for best results. Excellent variety for no-till. Seed is treated to enhance early seedling vigor. A superb variety for the North. Matures in only 90-100 days and is classed as early. Use this variety for high yields of grain of excellent quality. Do not use for ensilage. 09908 HYBRID GOLIATH SILO. Our only hybrid silo corn is almost as tall as open-pollinated Goliath, but is a little earlier and provides a much greater grain yield. Grows 12 to 14 ft. high, about a foot shorter than open-pollinated Goliath. However, Hybrid Go- liath matures about five days earlier and yields around 127 to 175 bushels of grain per acre – nearly twice the yield of open-pollinated Goliath. While open-pollinated Goliath is a white corn, Hybrid Goliath is a yellow type with excellent dry-down and picker ratings, larger ears and a reduced susceptibility to lodging. More versatile, withstanding plant- ings up to a plant population of 26,000. A medium late variety maturing in 105-115 days. Seed is untreated. A full bag contains approx. 65-75M kernels and weighs about 50 lb.

Root 550 sets a deep, strong root system to reduce problems from wind and drought. Vigor Root 550 is one of our best all-around varieties. Deep green leaves and clean stalks make this variety our most eye-appeal- ing. Long, yellow ears pick clean of husk, which is loose to promote fast dry-down. We recommend a population up to 26M for best results. Vigor Root 550 responds well to lots of animal manure and is equally good for cribbing or shelling (but not as good for ensilage). This rugged, high yielding variety matures in 105-110 days and is classed as a mid-season. It performs best in the North and Upper Midwest. If you farm north of Inter- state-70, then give this variety serious consideration! Seed is treated to promote early seedling vigor. (P) 1 lb. $16.95; (P) 5 lb. $37.95; (P) 10 lb. $67.95; (AA) 25 lb. $99.95; (AB) 50 lb. bag $184.95; 2 to 9 bags for $179.95 per bag; 10 to 19 bags $174.95 per bag; 20 to 50 bags $169.95 per bag; over 50 bags $167.95 per bag.
