Our se+ family, bred for us by Crookham Company of Idaho, is a hybrid cross between two varieties with EH genes. The resulting homozygous se+ hybrid corn combines and improves on the best qualities of each parent:
• Much increased tenderness. Far more tender than any of our EH Series. • Improved sweetness. Sweetness equal to, or slightly more than, any other member of the EH Series. • Slow conversion of sugar to starch. As the name implies, these varieties are especially sweet. These are all hybrids containing the sh2 endosperm gene which has been around since 1956 and has created a sweet corn revolution. The conversion of sugar to starch is considerably slower both on the stalk and after picking. Since the seeds are shrunken, there are substantially more seeds per pound. These varieties REQUIRE ISOLATION by at least 250 ft. in each direction. Cross-pollination will seriously affect the eating quality. For good germination, plant the seeds after the soil has reached 80°F.
03912 FLORIDA STAY SWEET. Same sweetness as our Illini Xtra Sweet, but even better insect resistance. Ear have long flag leaves, tightly securing the tips from damaging insects. Matures in 87 to 89 days, slightly later than Illini. All other outstanding qualities of Illini. Needs isolation. (A) Pkt.
