Sometimes we have to endure tough times to end up where we are destined to be.

Transformation FAITH and E

rma, a resilient 95-year-old Welsh Mountain Home resident, experienced this reality before finally finding a place to call home. Erma's journey is marked by trials and tribulations, but her unwavering spirit and faith in God, have led her to a brighter chapter in her life.

After the passing of her husband, Erma’s granddaughter encouraged her to seek the company of others. Her first move was to a retirement community, where she lived peacefully for six years. However, financial constraints led her to have to find another community, where she joined 12 other residents in what she hoped would be her forever home.

Unfortunately, that home was sold, forcing Erma to face yet another move. With limited options and a need for immediate accommodations, she found herself in Coatesville, PA, in a facility that did not meet all of her physical, emotional or spiritual needs. She lived in a confined environment where she experienced repetitive and unappetizing meals, had no access to a recreational outdoor area and was not offered off-campus activities. Tis created a sense of despair for Erma.

Te possibility of moving to Welsh Mountain Home became a beacon of hope during this trying time. Erma was overjoyed when she received a call from Sarah Albertson, Director of Residential Services at Welsh Mountain Home, stating a room was available for her.

Erma’s prayers were answered and she was finally welcomed to the Welsh Mountain Home community in the fall of 2023.

According to Erma, the contrast between her previous homes and Welsh Mountain Home is night and day. Te warmth of the community, the dedication of the staff, and the emphasis on spirituality has made for a welcomed change. “Where I used to live, they didn’t even think about praying,” Erma says. “I am grateful now for the prayers before meals, devotions in the sunroom, and the uplifting devotionals broadcast from Landis Homes.” She is thankful for the minister of the church she attended previously, who helped facilitate her move.

“Tis is the best place,” Erma shared. “Tere’s no place like this. I came here without knowing at all what it was like but I knew that coming here was God’s will. I had faith that it would be okay.”

Erma's newfound happiness at Welsh Mountain Home is a testament to the transformative power of a caring community. Te genuine concern shown by the staff and the support of her new friends have created an environment where Erma feels truly at home.
